In response to ‘Where’s Steve King?’

On 2/7/18, you published a letter entitled “Where’s Steve King?” from Bill Close of New Hartford. In his letter, Mr. Close writes “my representative, Steve King, has been impossible to communicate with.” Further, he writes “he does not respond to my phone calls to his district office.” As his communications director, I take such claims seriously.

Fortunately, our communications system logs calls and letters we receive from constituents, as well as the responses they receive from Congressman King’s offices. Because of this, I can tell you with certainty that a Mr. William Close of New Hartford has contacted Rep. King on three occasions: by e-mail on 11/11/2017, by US Postal Mail on 12/8/17, and by telephone on 1/30/18. In all three cases, Mr. Close received a response to his inquiries, including a personal telephone conversation in January with Congressman King’s District Representative.

I am going to take the liberty of suggesting that Bill Close of New Hartford and William Close of New Hartford are one and the same. As such, I think it is safe to answer the question “Where’s Steve King?” with “Dutifully responding to Mr. Close’s frequent letters and calls.”

Very truly yours,

Communications Director, Congressman Steve King, IA-4
