Henry Koster, Jr.

Henry “Sonny” Koster, Jr., 73, of Storm Lake, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2018 at his home. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 19, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. 

Henry “Sonny” Koster, Jr., the son of Henry C. Sr. and Beulah M. (Parker) Koster, was born in Anthon on Sept. 11, 1944. Sonny was baptized as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon and later confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church at Correctionville. He lived his youth and received his education in the Anthon community. Sonny served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from Nov. 2, 1967 until his honorable discharge on Nov. 1, 1973.

In 1970, Sonny was united in marriage to Brenda Nunn and this couple was blessed with two children, Wayne and Michelle. His nephew, Anthony, joined the family at the time of his birth in 1991 and Henry raised him as his own son. Most of Sonny’s lifetime was spent in Storm Lake where he was a fork lift operator at Vilas and Company. In later years, he worked at New Hope Village in Carroll, where he cared for people with disabilities.

Sonny was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. He enjoyed working in his yard and working on cars. One of his great joys in life was watching and caring for children.

Sonny’s life and memory are honored by his family which include his children: Wayne (Betty) Koster of Storm Lake; and Michelle (Dustin) Handy of Aurelia; and Anthony Allen (fiancée, Jennifer Brouwer) of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Kelia and Blaize Koster; brother, Fred (Rita) Koster of Monroe, Wis.; two sisters: Lois Koster of Storm Lake and Shirley (Ralph) DeLambert of Eden, Wyo.; brother-in-law, Norman Hammond of Wall Lake; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Pat Hammond.
