Marilyn Spooner

Marilyn E. Spooner, 86, of Aurelia died on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

A celebration of life and love was held Monday, Jan. 8, at  Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Marilyn Elizabeth Fitchett, the daughter of Floyd Fitchett, Sr. and Alice (Hunter) Fitchett, was born in Newell on Aug. 31, 1931. She lived her youth in the Sulphur Springs vicinity and attended school in Sulphur Springs where she graduated with the class of 1949. She worked as a USDA inspector for several years, then she attended Western Iowa Tech where she graduated with an associate degree in nursing in 1985. She was director of nurses at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake, where she was devoted to the residents, their families and co-workers.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Edward Spooner on March 29, 1950. Together, they were blessed with six children: Charles, Bonnie, James, Robert, Lori and William. 

Special interests of Marilyn’s included camping, sewing, knitting, movies, gardening and most of all spending time with her large family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Charles (Kathy) Spooner of Firestone, Colo.; Bonnie (David) Conley of Aurelia; James (Betty) Spooner of Odebolt; Robert (Alice) Spooner of Storm Lake; Lori Ann White of Aurora, Mo.; William (Margaret) Spooner of Celestine, Ind.; 23 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward on Sept. 19, 2017; brothers, John Fitchett and Floyd Fitchett, Jr.; and grandchild, Justin Spooner.
