Marathon couple bringing historic bank back to life

Daniel and Penny Bonham are taking the Marathon Bank into its next stage of life. The Marathon couple bought the Community State Bank on the town’s main street soon after it closed in 2015. Now they are remodeling the south half of it into a poolroom and the north part into an apartment for themselves.

The bank, originally Citizens State Bank, was built in 1917. It was one of three banks in town. It endured at least two robberies, said Penny, but outlasted the other two banks. “It’s a trip back in time,” she says, of spending time inside.
