RuthAnn Will

RuthAnn (Otten) Will, 81, of Newell, passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 after a brief stay at Good Samaritan Center in Newell.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec.18, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell. Burial was in  Newell Cemetery. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell was in charge of the arrangements. 

RuthAnn was born on the family farm near Peterson on April 24, 1936 to Omer and Marjorie (Rohrbaugh) Otten. She later welcomed three sisters: Janice, Carolyn and Elaine. She attended country school through the eighth grade and then went on to Sutherland High School graduating with the class of 1954.

RuthAnn married Harlan Will on April 6, 1957 and together they had two children, Darvin Dean and Danita Dawn. RuthAnn and Harlan made their home in Spencer and then moved to Newell in the fall of 1962; and there she remained a Newell resident.

RuthAnn enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. She raised many flower and vegetable gardens. She was talented at canning her garden produce, cooking great meals (especially her fried chicken) and baking. Her greatest qualities were her kindness and patience to all who knew her.

RuthAnn is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harlan; children: Darvin (Becky) Will of Newburgh, Ind. and Danita (Michael) Schnell of Newell; sisters: Janice Nissen of Lake Park; Carolyn Grothe of Sutherland; Elaine (John) Weir of Spencer; grandchildren: Jacob (fiancé, Nichole Winters) Schnell of Waukee; Halley (Chris) Hawkins of Kansas City, Mo. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Hayden and Cruz Hawkins; brother and sister-in-law, Marnie and Pat Will of Mankato, Minn.; sisters-in-law: Juillene Hewitt of Arizona and Joan Will of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Marjorie; parents-in-law, Fred and Bernice Will; brothers-in-law, Stanley Will, Paul Grothe, Rich Nissen and Rodean Will.
