IDALS seeks funds for animal disease outbreak

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey Monday requested an additional $150,000 for the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship’s animal industry bureau to respond to a foreign animal disease outbreak. 

The Department received $100,000 in funding starting this fiscal year. A portion of that used to hire a emergency management veterinarian. Additional funds will help develop emergency response plans, organize disease response exercises and expand coordination efforts with industry partners.
