Five players scored in double figures to help lead Buena Vista to a season-opening 85-82 victory at Bethany Lutheran despite seeing the Vikings overcome a 19-point deficit to tie the game late.
It was a back-and-forth game for a good portion of the first half before a 13-2 spurt midway through the period gave BVU a 33-18 lead with 6 minutes left.
That lead later grew to as many as 19 following a Connor Winkelman 3-pointer. The Vikings pulled to within 49-35 at the break.
