Kids face challenge of diabetes

These three Alta-Aurelia students want to increase awareness about Type

1 diabetes. They go about their day like other kids, but constantly keep

track of their blood sugar. Addy Fritz, left wears a monitor and her mom

Kathy (left rear) can keep track of its readings on her phone. Bristol and

Ava Brenner both wear insulin pumps around their waists and also wear

the monitors. Behind them is their mom Amanda. Siblings with diabetes

are rare.

High tech helps monitor it


“These kids go through so much being a diabetic and so do the families,” says Kathy Fritz of Alta. Most readers know Kathy for her work on behalf of abused children in the county through the non-profit CASA.
