Howard Kremin

Howard Andrew Kremin was born Jan. 30, 1926 at home on the farm at Dow City, Crawford County, the son of Fred and Minnie Mallum Kremin. He passed away Nov. 4, 2017, at Manilla Manor in Manilla at the age of 91.

He received his education in the schools near his home and then began his life-long career of farming. Howard was baptized in Christ Jan. 1, 1945, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City and later confirmed his faith Dec. 18, 1960, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, where he was still a member.

On Dec. 4, 1951, Howard was united in marriage to Edna Mae Retman at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. The couple settled on the Kremin home farm near Dow City and was blessed with the birth of three sons. Howard served his country in the United States Army in The European Theatre, during the Korean War from January 1952 until December 1953 when he was honorably discharged, receiving the Army Overseas Medal and National Defense Service Medal. His hobbies and interests included fishing, woodworking, going to old threshing and tractor shows and to the sale barn on Saturday mornings. He also enjoyed eating at Buck Grove on Friday nights, putting puzzles together and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding Howard in death were his parents; his wife, Edna Mae in 2010; half-brothers, Bryce and Don; sister, Leona; and grandson, Samuel. Survivors include three sons: Steve and his wife, Nancy; David and his wife, Lorna; and Mark and his wife, Sandy; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 10, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Graveside rites were held at Dow City Cemetery. Military Honors were by members of American Legion Post 444 of Dow City. The family invited everyone to return to the Dow City Community Building for fellowship and lunch provided by Deb’s Catering. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
