Frances J. Steig, 91, of Webster City passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 at Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City. Burial took place at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

Frances Josephine Straight, daughter of Joseph and Norma Frances (Lighter) Straight, was born March 19, 1926 at her parents’ rural home in Pocahontas County. Two years later, the family relocated to Storm Lake which always remained their “hometown”. Frances was a 1943 (valedictory) graduate of Storm Lake High School.

Following his honorable naval discharge after World War II, Robert Warren Steig and Frances were married March 29, 1946 in Storm Lake’s Methodist Church. They became the parents of three children: Roxanne Frances, Roger Warren and Russell Wayne. Robert’s employment took the family to other Iowa towns: Nevada, Washington and finally Webster City where they moved in 1962.

Although Frances’s family received her main attention and love, she also pursued various job opportunities – librarian, Chamber of Commerce secretary, newspaper, magazine and radio editorial work. She retired as administrative assistant for the Marketing Department at Electrolux in Webster City in 1989.

Her memberships and activities included reading, Asbury United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Chapter NR, bridge club, travel and a variety of handcrafts. She enjoyed volunteer work, meeting new friends and keeping long-time friends. She was a collector of baskets, memorial teaspoons, special china and crystal, and family history and pictures.

Greeting her in Heaven were her husband, Robert in 2002; younger son, Russell in 2010; parents, Joseph and Norma Straight; brother, Wayne Straight in 2012; and other dear family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children and families: Roxanne (Steve) Tjaden of Aurelia, and their children: Elizabeth Tjaden and Benjamin (Brooke) Tjaden; son, Roger (Ruth) Steig of Webster City, and their children: Ryan (Marissa) Steig, Reginald, Rachel and Rebecca Steig; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Steig of Carlisle, and her children: McKinley (Nicole) Steig, Evan (Lindsay) Steig; great-grandchildren: Gavin and Quinn Steig; sisters-in-law, Betty Steig and Ann Straight; dear cousins and other relatives; and special friends from a life well-lived.
