Ruth Saathoff

Ruth Eleanor Klocksiem was born in Paton, on Dec. 23, 1915. She grew up in Paton and graduated from Paton High School. She attended Iowa State Teacher’s College and Drake University. She taught in a country school, Hayes Consolidated School and North School in Storm Lake.

In 1941, Ruth married Harold Saathoff.  They made their home in Storm Lake for 51 years, except for the four years Harold served in the Army during WW II.  For many years they spent the winter months in Sun City, Ariz.

In 2002 they moved to Royal Oaks, an independent living facility in Sun City.

Ruth was a member of United Methodist Church and the Women’s Missionary group. Over her years in Storm Lake and Sun City, Ruth was an active member of several social clubs and volunteer organizations, including PEO and Buena Vista Hospital Auxiliary.

Ruth passed away Oct. 14, 2017,  two and a half months before her 102nd birthday.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Harold Saathoff; her parents, John and Edna Klocksiem of Paton; an infant brother; and sister, Fern Smith.  

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne and husband Dr. Daniel Gregg; daughter, DeeAnn and husband Ben Carlick; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
