Mike Hale

Mike Hale, 57, of Casa Grande, Ariz., passed away at his home Sept. 30, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. at Little Sioux Valley Cemetery in rural Rembrandt. A Celebration of Life will follow at Sioux Rapids American Legion. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Raymond Michael Hale was born May 12, 1960 in Limestone, Maine, the son of Raymond Morgan and Wilma (Stange) Hale.

In his youth, Mike was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt.

Mike attended Rembrandt Consolidated School where he graduated in 1979.

Mike joined the United States Army on Aug. 26, 1981. He proudly served his country throughout two tours in Germany. He was stationed in Fort Carson, Colo., when he met his future wife. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 16, 1989.

On Jan. 2, 1988, Mike was united in marriage to Elaine Doherty in Omaha, Neb. They were blessed with one son, John. The couple renewed their vows in Casa Grande, Ariz., on Sept. 18, 2015.   

Mike worked at Hexcel Corporation in Casa Grande where he made airplane parts. He was also a very talented carpenter. Mike and Elaine remodeled every home they lived in, with their son John’s help.

Mike was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed watching college football, whether it be Iowa, Nebraska or Arizona teams. He was also a Denver Broncos fan. Mike was an avid bowler, bowling on Monday league nights in Sioux Rapids. He could often be found Wednesday nights watching stock car races at the Buena Vista Raceway Alta. Mike also loved NASCAR, hunting, fishing and camping with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Elaine Hale of Casa Grande, Ariz.; son, John Hale (Andrea) of Casa Grande, Ariz.; sisters: Teresa Lammers of Rembrandt; Jeanne Iehl of Rembrandt; Lisa (Everett) Huffer of Cedar Rapids; Kim (Eddie) Farris of Rembrandt; Angie (Charlie) Grienke of Alta; brothers and sisters-in-law: John Doherty of Casa Grande, Ariz.; Doreen (Tim) Morris of Sioux Rapids; Laurie (Mike) Ziegler of Hilliard, Fla.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Wilma Hale; mother and father-in-law, John and Marge Doherty; brother-in-law, Kevin Iehl; and beloved dog and companion, Mia.
