Donald M. Currie, 78, of Schaller died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 19, at Schaller Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Schaller Cemetery. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller was in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Malcolm Currie was born April 29, 1939 in Schaller the son of Robert Malcolm and Lois Irene (Suitor) Currie.

Don attended school in Schaller where he graduated from Schaller High School.

Following high school graduation, Don enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge.

On Aug. 7, 1960 Donald was united in marriage to Sharan Grohe at Schaller Methodist Church. They were blessed with two sons, Greg and Dan.

Don loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and gardening. He also enjoyed woodworking. Together, Don and Sharan treasured traveling when time allowed. Don loved the land and worked many years on the farm. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Greg Currie of Monticello, Minn.; Dan (Noy) Currie of Platte City, Mo.; grandchildren: Shawn, Samantha, Casey, Shelby and Cameron; brother, Bill (Roxanne) Currie of Polk City; sister, Bonnie (Myron) Siebrecht of Sioux Center; mother-in-law, Leila Grohe of Storm Lake; sisters-in-law: Judy (Roger) Kenny of Schaller; LaRae (Denny) Mauser of Early; Joyce Currie of Schaller; nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Sharan Currie; parents, Malcolm and Lois Currie; brother, Bob Currie; father-in-law, Warren Grohe; and sister-in-law, Rosalie Grohe.
