James Weiland

James “Jim” Weiland, 72, of Truesdale died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 at his home.

Memorial services were held Sunday, Oct. 15, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be later in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery.

James H. Weiland was born Feb. 14, 1945 in Storm Lake, the son of George Sr. and Lillian (Delbridge) Weiland.

He attended school in Albert City where he graduated from Albert City High School in 1963. Following high school graduation, Jim became ASE certified in auto repair.

On Dec. 6, 1968, Jim was united in marriage to Darla Graff in Mitchell, S.D. They were blessed with two children, Kami and Lindee.

Jim was a city council member and presently the mayor of Truesdale.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and drag racing in his younger years. He also enjoyed traveling and was an avid NASCAR fan. Jim enjoyed cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.

Jim took a lot of pride in owning his own business, Automotive Specialists, in Storm Lake. He enjoyed helping others out. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Darla Weiland of Truesdale; children: Kathy (Neal) Hazen of Newell; Connie (Keith) Hartman of Nemaha; Kami (Brad) Jarnagin of Newell; Lindee (Jason) Weiland of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; grandchildren: Nikki (Doug) Ockerman; Ryan (Courtney) Hazen; Beth (BJ) Jones; Corey (Amanda) Hartman; Steven (Stephanie) Hartman; Aaron (Tiffany) Hazen; Kacy (Hedda) Ramirez; Kyle Jarnagin; Austin Jarnagin; Phoebe Pfaff; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, George Weiland, Jr. of Truesdale; sisters: Margie Hoferman of Alta; Ruth Dierenfeld of Aurelia; Darlene (Floyd) Barrickman of Truesdale; Linda Anderson of Storm Lake; close friend and nephew, Chris Barrickman of Truesdale; extended family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father, George and Lillian Weiland; uncle and aunt, Fred and Mame Weiland; brothers-in-law, Duane Hoferman and Henry Dierenfeld; and granddaughter, Kristen Hazen.
