Glen Bauer

Glen W. Bauer, 92, of Alta died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. A private family burial will be in Holstein Cemetery. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of the arrangements. 

Glen William Bauer was born Aug. 24, 1925 in Holstein, the son of Fred and Elsie (Lamp) Bauer.

Glen attended school in Holstein where he graduated from Holstein High School in 1943.

Following high school graduation, Glen enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country during World War II. Glen served as part of the Honor Guard for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He was honorably discharged.

On Dec. 4, 1946, Glen was united in marriage to Jean Hummel at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing. They were blessed with three children: Delane, Diane and Donna.

Glen and Jean moved to Alta in 1958. He worked for Becker Manufacturing for 16 years before opening his own woodworking shop called Bauer’s Woodshed in 1974. There he made beautiful handcrafted wood cabinets and furniture until he retired in 2005 at the age of 80.

Glen enjoyed fishing, playing cards and coffee with friends. Vacationing with family especially to the Black Hills was a favorite pastime of Glen’s. He had a passion for taking a plain piece of wood and making it into a work of art. Glen treasured being able to spend time with family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jean Bauer of Alta; children: Delane (Charla) Bauer of Floral City, Fla.; Diane (Ted) Gordon of Swan; Donna (John) Trickel of Des Moines; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and one grandson.
