Orphan Train speaker bound for SL

Dennis Wilson, a retired Canadian Pacific Railroad conductor and expert on the Orphan Train, will speak about the Orphan Train at the Buena Vista County Historical Society this Sunday, Oct. 15 from 2-4 p.m.

Over 300,000 children were shipped by rail to every state and territory in the U.S. between 1854 and 1929. Over 10,000 orphans were sent to Iowa.

They were from among the thousands of homeless, neglected, abused and delinquent children left to fend for themselves. Many survived through robbery, prostitution assault and even murder.
