Richard Krout

Richard Thurman Krout, 85, of Lakeside died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017 at his home.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial followed in Storm Lake Cemetery with full military rites by Alta VFW Post #6172. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Thurman Krout was born June 27, 1932 in Storm Lake, the son of Clarence “Bud” and Bessie (North) Krout.

He attended school in Marathon, graduating from Marathon High School.

In November 1952, Richard joined the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in October 1954.

On June 16, 1955, Richard was united in marriage to Judith Ann Cash in Laurens. They were blessed with two children, Terri and Jim.

Richard was a member of Alta VFW Post #6172.

Fishing with Jim, hunting, yardwork and watching westerns were a few of Richards’ favorite pastimes. He enjoyed taking care of his home and cars and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Most of all, Richard loved spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judith Krout of Lakeside; children: Jim Krout of Spencer; Terri (Mark) Rebhuhn of Marathon; grandchildren: Michaela Boyd (Nick Simmons) and Holly Boyd; great-grandson, Trey Boyd; sister, Betty Kuhn of Cherokee; extended family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom Krout; and sister, Mary Peterson.
