Traditional powers dominate state baseball tournament

Traditional powers stole the spotlight at this year’s state baseball tournament. The four new state champs have a combined total of 69 tournament appearances and 26 titles.

In Class 1A, Mason City Newman made its all-time state record 21st tournament appearance and their 10th straight, also an all-time state record. The Knights made it to the semifinals for the 10th straight time, another all-time state record, and left with their sixth state championship. Newman is now 30-15 at state — tied for third for the most wins.
