Phyllis Plagman

Phyllis M. Plagman, 88, of Adel, and formerly of Alta, died Saturday, July 1, 2017 in Adel.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Adel. Burial will be Saturday, July 8, at 2 p.m. at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Memorials may be directed to The American Heart Association. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Phyllis Marie Goetschius was born June 28, 1929 in Newell, the daughter of Joseph Edward and Edna Ella (Schossow) Goetschius.

Growing up, she was baptized on June 8, 1930 in Newell where she was later confirmed in 1943.

She attended school in Newell where she graduated in 1946.

Phyllis was the beloved wife of Vern Plagman for 68 years. They met at the wedding of Phyllis’s sister in January 1947 and were married on Sept. 21, 1947. They lived in Peterson, Sioux Rapids and Linn Grove for a short time.  They resided in Alta for 40 years where together they farmed. Phyllis and Vern were long time members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta where she was active in the Lutheran Ladies Aid.

Phyllis enjoyed card clubs, cooking, gardening and sewing. A favorite pastime of Phyllis’ were antiques and garage sales. Family gatherings were very important to Phyllis and she thoroughly enjoyed caring for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vern Plagman; sons, David and Terry and Denise Plagman; daughter, Susan (Plagman) Reimers; granddaughter, Stephanie Schnoebelen; siblings, Joseph Goetschius and Lois Jean King; half siblings: Wayne Ringer, Bessie Degner and Ruth Hayworth.

Phyllis will be forever remembered by her children: Cindy (Kirk) Schnoebelen of Altoona; Kevin (Kris) Plagman of Adel; Jerry Plagman of Alta; daughter-in-law, Rexene Plagman of Columbia, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
