Consider being a foster or adoptive parent

May is National Foster Care Month. It’s a time to raise awareness about children in foster care and to celebrate the foster families, workers, and advocates who make a difference in their lives.

In observance of National Foster Care Month, Iowa KidsNet staff held an Appreciation Event in Spencer on April 29, 2017 where over 60 foster/adoptive parents were in attendance.  There were lots of great door prizes and great speakers. Iowa KidsNet staff would like to thank all the wonderful donors to the event including sub sandwiches that were donated by Milford Subway, Decorations donated by CinTa Rentals, location free by Bethany Lutheran Church, Spencer A and M laundry for providing table clothes and napkins, desert donated by Carroll’s Bakery and many other great donations including monetary donation from Storm Lake Dairy Queen.

Iowa has an ongoing need for more foster parents, especially for families who can foster teenagers, sibling groups, and children with special behaviors. In our state, more than 2,550 children were referred to foster care in 2015. But there are only 2,300 licensed foster families in Iowa. We have to work together to change that number.

Please consider becoming a foster or adoptive parent. These children deserve a brighter future, and you could be the person to transform their life.
