Sydney Ruth Knapp, 89, of Fort Madison passed away on Wednesday, April 5, at 6:59 a.m. at West Point Care Center.
She was born on March 28, 1928, in Fort Madison to Donald and Helen Bradshaw Dowell. On Aug. 19, 1960, Sydney married James Edward Knapp in Burlington. She worked for eight years at Sheaffer Pen Co. and then was a homemaker. She enjoyed shopping, decorating, sewing and especially loved to dance. Sydney was a former member of Santa Fe United Methodist Church. She loved her family very much and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, James Knapp of Fort Madison; two daughters, Terry Schneider and Lynn Snowden of Fort Madison; three sons, David Knapp of Columbus, Ohio, Jamie (Jean) Knapp of Storm Lake and Russell (Shaun) Knapp of Shawnee, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one brother, Russell (Colleen) Dowell of Huntley, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 11, at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Jim Luder officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
