Melvin L. Johnson, 90, of Sioux Rapids, formerly of Alta, died Monday, March 13, 2017 at Hawkeye Care Center in Sioux Rapids.
Graveside services were held Thursday, March 16, at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids was in charge of the arrangements.
Melvin Lester Johnson was born June 28, 1926 in Farnhamville, the son of Walter and Minnie (Schaefer) Johnson.
Melvin attended school in Nemaha where he later graduated.
In his youth, he was baptized and confirmed. More recently, he attended Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids prior to its closing.
In 1950, Melvin was united in marriage to Harriette Christine (Purucker) Johnson. Together, they were blessed with one daughter, Donna.
Melvin worked at Merrill Manufacturing in Storm Lake until his retirement.
Melvin enjoyed spending time outside fishing and camping. He also liked dancing, puzzles and puzzle books. Most of all, Melvin loved spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Donna Perrigo of Sioux Rapids; grandchildren: Christine Smith of Sioux Rapids; Julie (Bryan) Kell of Galva; great-grandchildren: Tamara “Tammy” Hartfield and her children, Rowan and Wyatt Baines of Sioux Rapids; Terry Hartfield and his son, Oliver Hansen of Sioux Rapids; Cody Kell of Sioux City; and Aimee Kell of Galva; extended family and friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Harriette; and two sisters, Esther (Harley) Wood and Dorothy (Walter) Becker.
