Darlene Kruse, 83, of Storm Lake, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 at her home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 11, at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
Darlene Louise Kruse was born March 21, 1933 in the Swallom Hospital in Storm Lake. She was the daughter of August W. and Dorathea (Buchholz) Kruse.
On April 14, 1933, she was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake where she was later confirmed on April 14, 1946. She was very active in the church and remained a lifelong member.
Growing up, she attended school at Lincoln #8 for two years and then Lincoln Lee for two more years before attending Zion Lutheran Parochial School for four years. She attended high school at Albert City where she graduated with the class of 1951.
After high school, Darlene worked for JC Penny from 1954-1995 as a bookkeeper.
In her younger years, Darlene enjoyed bowling and won trophies for the ladies doubles and women’s singles league. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Darlene also loved playing cards. Family was important to Darlene and she treasured the time she was able to spend with them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brothers: Don (Carol) Kruse of Rembrandt; Wayne (Marian) Kruse of Storm Lake; sister-in-law, Janice Kruse of Albert City; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, August and Dorathea; and her brother, Corwin Kruse.
