Delean Miller, 87, of Sioux Rapids, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017 at Hawkeye Care Center in Sioux Rapids.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 7, at First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial was in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids was in charge of the arrangements.
Delean Ann Haner, the youngest daughter of Erie and Irene (Beedle) Haner, was born in Logan on Feb. 12, 1929. Her parents were farmers and lived a few miles from Modale. When Delean was three-years-old, her parents purchased a farm south of Woodbine where she attended country school through the 8th grade. She then attended the Woodbine High School where she graduated with the Class of 1947.
Delean then took classes and received her Normal Training Teacher’s Certificate and in the fall of 1949, she became a country school teacher. She was employed as county school teacher in the Woodbine vicinity until Jan. 1, 1950.
On her birthday, Feb. 12, 1950, Delean was united in marriage to Clyde Miller of Sioux Rapids at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. This marriage was blessed with two children, Lourene and Mark.
Clyde and Delean were engaged in farming in the Webb area for a few years following their marriage. The couple then purchased a home in Sioux Rapids where they resided for 47 years. Clyde passed away on July 5, 2012. Since March 6, 2015, Delean has made her home at Hawkeye Care Center in Sioux Rapids.
Delean did a great deal of sewing throughout her lifetime and she also enjoyed crocheting, playing Bingo, gardening and caring for her flowers. She was a loving and devoted homemaker, wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma. Delean had also served as a substitute cook at the school and was employed as a cook at Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids.
Delean’s life will always be honored and cherished by her family which include her children, Lourene (Dick) Vail and Mark (Dena) Miller, all of Sioux Rapids; grandchildren: Amy Rozeboom, Justin (Molly) Vail, Matthew (Holly) Miller, Becca (Kyle) Aronson; 14 great-grandchildren that she cherished; and other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde; and two sisters, Cleta Piercy Ehlers and Ines McCannon.
