Harold Bibler

Harold V. Bibler, 87, of Alta, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. at Summit Evangelical Free Church in Alta. Burial will follow in Elk Township Cemetery with full military rites by Alta VFW Post #6172. Visitation will take place Friday, Jan. 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Harold Vernon Bibler was born April 10, 1929 in rural Cherokee, the son of Clarence and Bessie (Mason) Bibler.

He attended country school in O’Brien County and later graduated from Linn Grove High School in 1948.

In Jan. 1951, Harold joined the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953.

On Aug. 12, 1956, Harold was united in marriage to Irene Guthridge at Riverside Presbyterian Church in Linn Grove. Together, they were blessed with five children: Dan, Kris, Rick, Cindy and Becky.

Farming was a life-long passion of Harold’s. He devoted countless hours to the land and livestock. In return, he instilled a hard work ethic in his children and grandchildren. 

Harold was a member of Alta VFW Post #6172 and Sioux Rapids American Legion Post #394. He also was a member of BV Cattlemen, BV Pork Producers and Farm Bureau. A highlight of his later years included a trip on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Harold loved seeing all of the memorials and landmarks.

Harold enjoyed bowling, playing cards, telling jokes and listening to country music. Most of all, family was very important to Harold. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was always there to support them at events. Harold will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Irene Bibler of Alta; children: Dan Bibler of Alta; Kris (Tony) Origer of Fairmont, Minn.; Rick (Yumi) Bibler of Alta; Cindy (Brian) Glienke of Aurelia; Becky (Dean) Hoffman of Ankeny; grandchildren: Kaylynn (Lee) Steinkamp of Fairmont, Minn.; Tonya (Chad) Carlson of Fairmont, Minn.; Mark Origer of Mankato, Minn.; Jake Bibler of Alta; Jessy (Travis) Smith of Storm Lake; Jackson Mills of Cedar Falls; Jesse Boehmer of Cedar Falls; Niki (Ben) Carstens of Bagley; Adam (Amy) Glienke of Washta; Stacie Glienke of West Des Moines; Alicia (Brendan Leiran) Hoffman of Bettendorf; Michael Hoffman of Iowa City; great-grandchildren, Luther Steinkamp and Cahpri Carlson; brother, Norm (Lois) Bibler of Waverly; sister-in-law, Jeannine (Wayne) Hansen of Peterson; extended family and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald Bibler; niece, Joann Sparks; and nephew, Allen Bibler.
