Sara J. (Goodenow) Blum, 53, of Storm Lake, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2017 at her home in Storm Lake.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Jan. 10, at United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
Sara Jane Goodenow was born March 6, 1963 in Carroll, the daughter of John and Karen (Kolbe) Goodenow.
Sara attended Wall Lake Community School where she graduated in 1981. She continued her education at Buena Vista University where she earned a degree in finance.
On July 7, 1984, Sara was united in marriage to Michael F. Blum in Wall Lake. They were blessed with two children, John and Katie.
Sara was a huge sports fan and seldom missed a sporting event involving John or Katie. She also was a loyal Iowa Hawkeyes fan. In her spare time, she volunteered for many school-related boards and committees while her kids were in school. Sara never had an enemy and was friends with many. Sara was a devoted and loving wife and a caring and loving mother who always had a smile on her face. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Michael Blum of Storm Lake; son, John Blum of Englewood, Colo.; daughter, Katie (Nolan) Cone of Alta; parents, John and Karen Goodenow of Okoboji; brother, Steve (Michele) Goodenow of Okoboji; sister-in-law, Brenda (Jim) Kropf of Wall Lake; sister-in-law, Becky (Tom) Lockhart of Sydney; brother-in-law, Gene (Steph) Blum of Aurora, Colo.; sister-in-law, Kris (Dave) Schonrock of Sioux City; brother-in-law, Dan (Beth) Blum of Wall Lake; extended family and friends.
Sara was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Francis and Roma Jean Blum; and brother-in-law, Bruce Blum.
Memorials may be made in Sara’s name to the Oncology Department at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
