Barbara Jean Turpin, 91, of Alta passed away Dec. 30, 2016 at Countryside Estates in Cherokee.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Jan. 7, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta.
Barbara Jean Elrod was born Aug. 31, 1925 in Monroe, the daughter of Lloyd and Dorothy (Cook) Elrod.
Barbara attended school and graduated from Mingo High. Following high school graduation, Barbara furthered her education at AIB and Simpson College.
On Jan. 21, 1948, Barbara was united in marriage to Edwin L. Turpin in Graettinger. Together, they were blessed with one daughter, Cathryn Jean.
Barbara was a member of Alta Methodist Church where she served on the Susanne Wesley Circle and Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Alta Library Board and a founding member of the Alta Golf and Country Club.
In her spare time, Barbara liked playing cards, especially bridge and 500. She had a passion for sewing and knitting and loved reading. Family was very important to Barbara and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Cathy and Donald Fisher of Alta; grandchildren: Melinda and Vance Cords of Storm Lake; Barb and Mike Kelley of Holstein; Laura and Steve Eastwood of Fort Dodge; great-grandchildren: Amber Cords of Cherokee; Jamie and PJ Aquitania of Hope Mills, N.C.; Amy Cords of Storm Lake; Mikkal Kelley of Holstein; Donald Kelley of Holstein; Trent, Ryne and Keaton Eastwood of Fort Dodge; great-great-grandchildren: Noah Aquitania, Kennedy and Emmett Eastwood; brother, Phil and Mary Ann Elrod of Ames; sister, Linda and Gary Tett of Euless, Texas; nieces; nephews; extended family and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Turpin; parents, Lloyd and Dorothy Elrod; parents-in-law: Elmer and Erna Turpin; brothers and sisters-in-law: James and Virginia Elrod and Delmar and Mary Turpin.
