An apple butter and angel food cake workshop at the East Sac County Middle School on Dec. 30.

The youth learned the importance of using research tested recipes, how to use the hot water bath and they were able to make apple butter and go home with a fair ready project.

The afternoon was spent learning how to separate whites from egg yolks, how to make the whites frothy and then the proper way of folding in the dry ingredients. They prepared an angel food cake and went home with the confidence to make another one for the fair.
