Man charged with sexual assault of girl over 10 years

Children removed from home

Police arrested a Storm Lake man Wednesday over allegations of repeated sexual assaults of a girl over the last 10 years.

At 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of a sexual assault.

Police were advised by a juvenile, female victim that she had been sexually assaulted repeatedly over a 10-year period by her mother’s boyfriend.

The victim along with three younger siblings were removed from their home where the suspect resided and placed into protective foster care by the Iowa Department of Human Services.

Police arrested Miguel Saldana-Ortiz, 33, and charged him with second-degree sexual abuse, eight counts of third-degree sexual abuse and lascivious conduct with a minor.

Police believe many more incidents of abuse occurred than what is reflected in the current charges. Saldana-Ortiz was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Police remain investigating the incidents.

Police were assisted by the sexual assault response team, the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office, the Iowa Department of Human Services and Storm Lake High School staff.


Altan cited for fighting deputy

The Buena Vista County Sheriff arrested an Alta man Tuesday for attempting to fight a police officer and causing significant damage in his home during a domestic dispute.

At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 133 Leander St. in Alta, in regards to a female reporting a domestic disturbance. 

A deputy arrived on scene and made contact with a male and female outside the home. It was discovered that the male, identified as Carlos Aniel Rodriguez Negron, 21, had been arguing with the female who reported the incident.  The female reported Rodriguez Negron had caused significant damage to property in the home, but no physical altercation occurred.

While questioning the two about what had happened, Rodriguez Negron attempted to fight the deputy and fled on foot. The deputy confronted him near the area of Leander St. and W. Second St. and he attacked the officer.

Rodriguez Negron was subdued and taken into custody; The deputy was treated for injuries received during the struggle. 

Rodriguez Negron was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail and charged with assault on a peace officer causing injury, interference with official acts causing injury and third-degree criminal mischief.


$23 theft from Walmart

Police arrested a Storm Lake woman Wednesday for stealing $23 in cash from a register at the Storm Lake Walmart last week.

Police responded to a report at the Storm Lake Walmart in reference to a belated theft.

Police were advised a Walmart employee was on security tape last week, stealing $23 in cash at a cash register.

Police charged the suspect, identified as Yvonne Lindsey, 19, with fifth-degree theft. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.


Failure to pay fines

Police responded to 725 Hickory St. Wednesday to arrest 33-year-old Vichit Senesoury, who was wanted out of Buena Vista County on a warrant charging him with contempt of court for failing to pay fines.

Senesoury was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $500 bond.


Shoplifting charge

Police arrested a Sac City woman Monday for attempting to leave the Storm Lake Walmart with $100 in unpaid merchandise.

At 2:15 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the Storm Lake Walmart in reference to a theft.

Store staff alleged Breanna Wirtjers, 24, attempted to leave the store with $100 in unpaid merchandise.

Wirtjers was charged with fifth-degree theft and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.


Girl charged with assault

Police arrested a 13-year-old student Monday for throwing a fellow student to the ground and kicking the student in the head. 

At 1:20 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to Storm Lake Middle School in reference to an assault.

School staff who alleged a 13-year-old female of Storm Lake threw a victim to the ground and kicked the victim in the head.

The 13-year-old was charged with assault and released to school officials pending a court date.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
