Man shoots himself in leg


Police transported a 26-year-old to BVRMC Tuesday after he shot himself in the leg.

At 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to the Buena Vista Inn and Suites located at 1726 N. Lake Ave. in reference to a shooting.

Responding officers were advised that a male subject had reportedly shot himself in the leg accidently. Upon arrival, police located a 26-year-old man lying outside of his pickup truck with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported by ambulance to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center with a non-life threatening wound.

Police located and seized a .45 caliber handgun at the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident.

The SLPD was assisted at the scene by Buena Vista County paramedics.

 

Nemaha man charged with stealing from Walmart


Police arrested a Nemaha man Tuesday for defrauding the Storm Lake Walmart out of $1,000 in lost sales.

At 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, the Storm Lake Police Department arrested a wanted person in the 800 block of Oneida St. Police arrested Juan Morales Sanchez Jr., 32 on a warrant charging him with second-degree fraudulent practices. 

The warrant stemmed from a charge that Sanchez and another person inappropriately scanned items as part of a price-fixing scheme. The group allegedly defrauded the store out of $1,000 in lost sales over the three-month scheme.

Sanchez was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

           

Outstanding warrants


Police arrested a Storm Lake man Thursday for an outstanding assault charge.

At 3:20 p.m. Thursday, a person wanted by the Storm Lake Police Department surrendered himself at the Buena Vista County Jail.

Alexander Castillo-Hernandez, 38, was arrested on a warrant charging him with domestic assault. The warrant stemmed from an incident that occurred Sept. 26 at 208 Seneca St.

Castillo-Hernandez was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

 

Police arrested a Storm Lake man Wednesday for not appearing in court for driving while barred. 

At 9 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to 601D W. Eighth St. to locate Bouneua Louangsarath, 77, who was wanted out of Buena Vista County on warrants charging him with two counts of failing to appear for court hearings that stemmed from his barred driving privileges.

Louangsarath was booked into jail on a $2,000 bond.
