Altan nabbed in Clay county with knife, drug gear

Police arrested an Alta man Monday for carrying a large knife and drug paraphernalia on a Clay County rural road.

At 7:19 p.m. Monday, Coltenoch Larson, 18, was driving on the 3000 mile of 310th Ave when a Clay County deputy stopped his vehicle for a traffic violation. The deputy detected the odor of marijuana and searched the vehicle.

Police seized drug paraphernalia and a knife as part of the search. Larson was charged with carrying weapons, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding and expired driver’s license.

Larson was held in the Clay County Jail to appear before a magistrate.


Failure to pay fines

Police arrested a Storm Lake woman for failing to pay fines on an original charge of driving without a license.

At 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, police served an arrest warrant at 704 Pleasantview Dr. on Sami Samuel, 21, who was wanted for contempt of court reference failure to pay fines on an original charge of driving without a license. 

Samuel was taken into custody and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and on a $500 bond. 


Police say man steals booze, drinks it in lot

Police arrested a Storm Lake man Tuesday for stealing a bottle of liquor at Midtown and drinking it in the parking lot.

At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to Midtown at 1100 E. 5th St., for a disruptive customer who had left the store without paying for merchandise.

Police located the suspect as Daniel Flores, 21, in the Midtown Parking lot allegedly consuming a stolen bottle of liquor.

Flores was charged with fifth-degree theft, disorderly conduct and consuming alcohol in a public place and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond. 


Charged with stealing cell phone from locker room

Police arrested two Storm Lake teens Friday for stealing a cell-phone in the girls’ locker room of Storm Lake High School.

At 7 p.m. Friday, police took a report of a theft from the girl’s locker room at Storm Lake High School.

The reporting party told police a cell phone was allegedly stolen from the girl’s locker room. The phone was tracked to 1703 Violet Ln., where police recovered the stolen phone from a juvenile female.

Police were provided with the names of two juvenile females that entered the locker room near the time of the theft.

Police charged a 12-year-old female and a 14-year-old female of Storm Lake with fourth-degree theft. Both juveniles were processed and released to a parent pending a court date.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
