Dorothe Cavanaugh, 95, of Franklin, Tenn., formerly of Newell, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 at The Hearth in Franklin, Tenn.
Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be Saturday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, with entombment following at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 16, from 5-7 p.m. with rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
She was a graduate of St. John Grade School and Joliet Township High School. During WWII, Dorothe met her husband, Cecil, at Globe Corporation in Joliet, Ill., where he worked as a welder making target gliders and she was secretary for the supervising lieutenant colonel. They married and moved to Sulfur Springs and later purchased their home in Newell. In her early years, she worked as a secretary for the Newell Creamery and superintendent of Newell-Providence High School. Later she worked as a teller at First National Bank in Newell. She spent the remainder of her life as a dedicated housewife, mother and grandmother.
Dorothe was a devout Catholic with a devotion to Mary. She will be remembered for her culinary delights and being an avid golf and bridge player.
She is survived by her children: Tom (Donna) Cavanaugh of Storm Lake; Corrine (Dan) McCormick of Franklin, Tenn.; Jim (Lorri) Cavanaugh of Plano, Tx.; grandchildren: Stacie (Lance) Mullen of Crestwood, Ky.; Ross (Kaley) Lyons of Franklin, Tenn.; Matthew Cavanaugh of Denton, Tx.; Jason Cavanaugh of Plano, Tx.; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil B. Cavanaugh; her infant daughter, Jan; her parents, John and Mary (nee Goestel) Schauer; four sisters: Marie Kramer, Bernadine Hoffmeyer, Cecelia Schauer and Bertha Schauer; and three brothers: John, Joseph and George in infancy.
