Police use Taser on man causing disturbance


Police were dispatched to Express Auto Rental at 1237 Hwy. 7 (East Lakeshore Dr.), in reference to a disturbance on Tuesday at 1:15 p.m.

Responding officers were told that an irate customer was in the business allegedly yelling and pounding on the counters.

Upon arrival of police the suspect, later identified as Louis Joles, 42, of West Bend, allegedly refused officers’ commands and resisted arrest.  Joles reportedly fought with officers and was taken to the ground and subdued with a Taser.

Police transported Joles to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a Taser shock.  Police then transferred Joles to the county jail, where he was charged with assaulting an officer, interference with official acts and disorderly conduct.  He was booked into the jail on a $1,600 bond.

No officers were injured.

 

Three teens busted for allegedly smoking marijuana


Police were dispatched to Chautauqua Park Shelter House on East Lakeshore Drive in reference to suspicious activity on Tuesday at 8:23 p.m.

Officers were advised that a vehicle occupied by three males had parked near the shelter house.  The three males walked behind the shelter house for about 10 minutes and then returned to the vehicle and left. 

Police checked the shelter house and allegedly smelled burned marijuana. They found evidence of marijuana in the area where the three males were seen. A short time later a police officer on patrol observed the vehicle the three males were reported to be in at the McDonald’s parking lot. 

Police made contact with the three 16-year-olds, two from Lakeside and one from Storm Lake.

Police charged all three boys with possession of a controlled substance and gathering where controlled substance is used. The boys were processed and released to a parent pending a court date.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

           

Aurelia man jailed for theft


Police were dispatched to Walmart in reference to a theft on Tuesday at 11:52 a.m.

Officers were advised that a person identified as Randy Banks, 57, of Aurelia, had allegedly stolen approximately $55 in merchandise from the store and fled from the scene.

Police and sheriff’s deputies attempted to find Banks, and at approximately 5 p.m. he surrendered himself to law enforcement at Buena Vista County Jail.

Police charged Banks with fifth-degree theft and booked him into the county jail on a $300 bond.

The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation.
