Man reportedly threatens life of hospital worker


Police took a report of a threat that had been made towards a staff member at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center at approximately 6:25 a.m. Tuesday.

Police were told that an estranged husband identified as Arturo Sanchez-Medellin, 30, of Storm Lake, allegedly made contact with the victim at the medical center where she works and an argument ensued. 

During the argument Sanchez-Medellin threatened to kill the woman. 

He then departed from the medical center.

Police located and arrested Sanchez-Medellin on the campus of Buena Vista University where he is a student and charged him with first-degree harassment and domestic assault.

He was booked into the county jail and held without bond.

There were no injuries.

 

Wanted man arrested


Police responded to the campus of Buena Vista University in reference to locating a wanted person on Tuesday at 2:51 p.m.

Upon arrival, police made contact with and arrested Ayaka Matsumura, 22, of Japan, on a warrant charging Matsumura with gathering where controlled substances are used.

The charges stem from an incident on Nov. 19, where marijuana and drug paraphernalia were seized on campus during an investigation.

Matsumura was booked into the county jail on a $1,000 bond.

 

Man charged with domestic assault


Police were dispatched to the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office to meet with a citizen who wished to report a domestic assault.

Upon arrival of police, they met with the reporting party who said that on Dec. 1 at 9 p.m., her boyfriend allegedly assaulted her at her residence on West Seventh Street after repeatedly telling him to leave the house and him refusing.

The suspect was identified as Fidel De Lao-Rivas, 48, of Storm Lake.

At 5 p.m. on Tuesday police located and arrested Lao-Rivas at 601A West Eighth St. where he was arrested without incident.  Police charged Lao-Rivas with domestic assault and criminal trespass.

He was booked into the county jail and was held without bond.

 

Wanted woman surrenders


Police arrested a wanted person after she surrendered herself at the police station on Wednesday at 8:25 a.m.

Police arrested Delta Gulley, 40, of Early, who was wanted on the charge of fifth-degree theft.

Gulley was booked into the county jail and released after posting a $300 bond.

 

Wanted man arrested


Police responded to 120 Highway St. #11 in reference to locating a wanted person on Wednesday at 11:05 a.m.

Police located and arrested Frankie Cords, 27, of Storm Lake, who was wanted out of Buena Vista County on the charge of violation of probation reference possession of a controlled substance.

Cords was booked into the county jail on a $500 bond.
