Man reportedly bitten in fight

On July 19 police were dispatched to Knights of Columbus Hall on East Lakeshore Drive in reference to a fight.

Upon arrival at 11:43 p.m., police took two men into custody: Gustavo Gonzalez-Barraza, 32, of Storm Lake, and Jose Cota, 31, of Storm Lake. 

Police were advised that Gonzalez-Barraza allegedly struck Cota in the face and bit him on his arm, causing a minor injury.

Following an investigation police arrested Gonzalez-Barraza and charged him with assault causing injury, a serious misdemeanor, and public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.  He was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,300 bond.

Police arrested Cota and charged him with public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.  He was booked into the county jail on a $300 bond.  Cota declined medical attention.        


Alta man jailed

Police arrested a wanted person on Lake Avenue July 21.

At 8 p.m. a police officer found Nickolas Mount, 20, of Alta, who was wanted in Buena Vista County on a warrant regarding possession of drug paraphernalia. The arrest was made on 1400 Lake Ave.

Mount is held in Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.


Wanted woman arrested

A routine vehicle stop resulted in an arrest of a wanted person Monday night.

A police officer stopped a vehicle on 200 West Milwaukee Ave. for a traffic offense. Police determined a passenger in the car was Christina Butcher, 49, of Alta. She was wanted for failure to appear reference driving while suspended.

She was also wanted in Cherokee County on a warrant charging her with contempt of court for not paying fines.

Butcher was booked into the county jail on a $4,660 bond.


Three charged with public intoxication

Police arrested three men and charged them with public intoxication July 21.

At 12:01 a.m. police heard yelling from Mo’s Bar. Police conducted a bar check and found three people involved in an incident.

Police arrested Joshua Fansler, 25, of Albert City, William Weaver, 23 of Kaw City, Okla., and Justin Bell, 25, of Blackwell, Okla. They were all charged with public intoxication and held on a $300 bond each at Buena Vista County Jail.


Man faces drug charges

Police impounded a vehicle and arrested a Fort Dodge man July 21. At midnight police observed a vehicle parked across a sidewalk on Lake Avenue and First Street. Police found the vehicle to be a 1993 Cadillac and found marijuana inside.

Police identified the owner as Edward Brown, 23, of Fort Dodge. Police arrested him and charged him with possession of marijuana and public intoxication. He was booked into the county jail on a $1,300 bond.


Facebook harassment leads to arrest

Police were dispatched to 217 Superior St. on July 18 in reference to harassment.

Upon arrival of police at 11:28 p.m., they were advised that a person identified as Kelvin Ramirez, 18, of Storm Lake, had allegedly posted inflammatory statements towards the victim on Facebook.

Following an investigation on July 19 at 4 p.m., police located Ramirez at 133 Russell St. and arrested him.  Ramirez was charged with third-degree harassment.  He was booked into the county jail on a $300 bond.
