Duo allegedly fabricates report of assault at bar

Police took a report of an assault that occurred behind Puff’s Bar on June 21.

Officers responded to Cherokee County Hospital Emergency Room and met with Alanzo Ruble, 22, and Bailey English, 22, both of Cherokee. Police were told by Ruble, who was suffering from injuries related to an assault, that he was jumped by three men behind Puff’s earlier in the night and was beaten.

Ruble was unable to provide police with a description of the suspect and English, who was with Ruble, gave a similar account of the incident.

During the investigation, police were contacted by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department on July 1 and told that Ruble was a suspect in a fight in Plymouth County on the same night as his attack in Storm Lake. Further investigation showed that Ruble and English fabricated the story of the assault behind Puff’s.

On Tuesday, July 15 at 10 a.m. police arrested English at the police station on a warrant charging her with indictable offense to public entity. She was booked on a $1,000 bond.

At 12:24 p.m. Tuesday, police arrested Ruble in the lobby of the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office and booked him into the county jail on a $1,000 bond.
