SL man cited for chasing person with baseball bat
An assault was reported at One Stop Shop on Lake Avenue and 10th Street on Sunday at 5:40 p.m.
Police were told that a man chased another man with a baseball bat and tried to hit him with it. The suspects fled and officers took two people into custody near West 10th Street and Ontario Street.
Two others were taken into custody for questioning at 504 Ontario St.
On Saturday night an investigation showed that Inosensio Kabriel Smith, 30, of Storm Lake, was assaulted near South Windsor Circle.
On Sunday afternoon, Smith armed himself with a baseball bat and went to the person’s home who assaulted him the previous night, Lennon Optaia, 28, of Storm Lake.
Inosensio Smith attacked Optaia when he fled and called police.
A third person, Rheno Smith, 28, of Storm Lake, was also involved in the Sunday afternoon attack.
On Sunday police arrested Inosensio Smith and charged him with going armed with intent, assault while participating in a felony, public intoxication and disorderly conduct. He was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $10,600 bond.
Lennon Optaia was charged with assault causing bodily injury and public intoxication. He was booked into the county jail on a $1,300 bond.
Rheno Smith was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct and was booked into the county jail on a $600 bond.
Inosensio Smith sustained minor injuries from the Saturday night assault but did not require medical attention.
No other injuries were reported.
Man reportedly violates no contact order
Ashanti Jenkins, 25, of Storm Lake, reportedly violated a no contact order on Friday at 1:41 p.m.
Police say he called a woman by phone over the last year after a court ordered him not to.
Jenkins was arrested at 401 Cayuga St. #303 at 7 p.m. Friday. According to police, Jenkins was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Jenkins was charged with stalking, possession of marijuana, violation of a no contact order, harassment and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was booked into the county jail and was held without bond.
Theft reported at Walmart
A theft was reported Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Walmart by an employee.
Store staff told police that Sandra Turnquist, 52, of Storm Lake, took store merchandise between May 15 and June 19 of 2014. The items were valued at $500.
Police arrested Turnquist and charged her with theft. She was booked into BV County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
Woman allegedly assaults man in Alta
Velvet Jenil Buford, 24, of Alta, was arrested at 1:42 a.m. Saturday after reportedly assaulting a man on the street outside of 532 Oates St. #18.
Buford left the scene after witnesses tried to pull her away. She was apprehended by BV County Sheriff’s deputies at 133 Leander St. in Alta.
Deputies returned Buford to Storm Lake, where she was charged with domestic assault, disorderly conduct and public intoxication. She was booked into the county jail and was held without bond.
No injuries were reported.
Three men arrested during LakeFest event
Storm Lake Police made the following arrests at LakeFest on Saturday night:
• Jordan Reuter, 20, of Manson, was charged with public intoxication and possession of alcohol. He was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $600 bond.
• Jarod Gross, 21, of Clare, was staggering down East Lakeshore Drive. He was found lying under a truck at Grand Central East and was charged with public intoxication. He was booked into the county jail on a $300 bond.
• Brian Carlisle, 34, of Alta, was charged with public intoxication and was booked into the county jail on a $300 bond.
Kansas City duo jailed on public intoxication charges
Francisco Renteria Ramos, 37, and Brian Eaton, 46, both of Kansas City, were charged with public intoxication after allegedly refusing to follow house rules at Mo’s Bar on Lake Avenue Sunday night.
At 9:40 p.m. police were told that the duo left the bar after refusing to obey the rules. Police made contact with them in the 200 block of East Railroad Street and allege they were intoxicated.
They were arrested and booked into the county jail on a $300 bond each.
Man jailed after reportedly stealing from home
A theft was reported at 539 Hudson St. on Saturday at 2:02 a.m.
A former resident at the house told police they left some property at the home that was packed for moving and discovered that electronic equipment, clothing, jewelry, religious statues and personal paperwork were allegedly missing.
The home was inhabited by several people.
Police investigated the incident and on Sunday at 11:09 p.m. entered the house and found some of the stolen property. Police executed a search warrant and located additional stolen items.
Police arrested Maynard Erson, 35, of Storm Lake, in connection with the investigation and charged him with possession of stolen property. He was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
The investigation is continuing.
