Turkey truck tips over

A semi loaded with live turkeys turned over at 12:17 p.m. Sunday at the eastbound ramp at the intersection of Hwy. 71 and four-lane 20.

The driver, Donald Keith Tuel, 58, of Schaller, was driving a 2014 Peterbilt owned by Handei Mack Inc. of Schaller. Tuel’s trailer was loaded with live turkeys owned by Hillshire.

Tuel was trying to turn east to the on-ramp of Hwy. 20 and was traveling too fast when he made the turn, according to Sac County Sheriff Ken McClure. The tractor and trailer overturned. Tuel was not injured and it is unclear how many turkeys died in the accident. Tuel was charged with failure to maintain control.
