Man faces multiple charges after attempted burglary

A person tried to break into a residence at 535 Superior St. on Sunday just after midnight. No suspects were located when police arrived. Police later saw a 1999 Ford pickup squealing its tires and driving erratically in the 500 block of Russell Street.

Police stopped the vehicle in the 400 block of East Milwaukee Avenue and identified the driver as Sergio Quintero, 26, of Storm Lake. Quintero was intoxicated and was charged with OWI and careless driving. He was booked on a $1,000 bond.

At 6 p.m. Sunday the resident from 535 Superior St. reported that Quintero forced his way into the home and assaulted the man in his room.

Quintero fled and was later arrested for OWI. The man told police that Quintero was at his residence due to a conflict over a woman. At 6:45 p.m. Sunday police located Quintero at his residence at 523 Russell St. and took him into custody without incident. Quintero was charged with burglary, assault while participating in a felony and criminal mischief. He was booked into the county jail on a $10,000 bond. No injuries were reported.
