Drugs uncovered after police find children leaning out of window

Police were called to 1726 East Milwaukee Ave. #5 Monday at 6 p.m. because two children were reportedly leaning out of a second story window.

Police met with the children and their babysitter and determined the children were in no immediate danger, but police did file a report to the Iowa Department of Human Services.

On Tuesday, DHS staff requested the police department accompany them to the apartment. DHS and police met with the mother of the children, Ashleigh Shinn, 26, of Storm Lake.

Police say there was drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana in the apartment. Police sealed the apartment and after acquiring a search warrant, seized marijuana, drug paraphernalia, packaging materials, a scale, two computers and multiple cell phones.

Shinn was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked into the county jail on a $1,300 bond.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.
