Man jailed after alleged sexual abuse at gas station


Police were called to Dyno’s at the intersection of East Lakeshore Drive and Flindt Drive in reference to sexual assault on Saturday at 3:30 a.m.

Police met with a 19-year-old female clerk who told police that a man entered the store after 1 a.m. and attacked her, sexually assaulting her in the store.

The victim was taken to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released. The victim provided police with a description of the suspect and information of his vehicle.

At 5 a.m. Saturday morning a BV County Sheriff’s deputy located the suspect’s vehicle at 203 Birch St. in Lakeside.

Police made contact with the occupants of the residence and took Eufemio Vazquez-Velazquez, 60, of Lakeside, into custody.

Police charged him with sexual abuse and assault and he was booked into the county jail on a $10,000 bond.

 

Teens reportedly sneak in to lighthouse


Police received a report Thursday night at 7:49 p.m. about people jumping the fence and trespassing at the lighthouse at Awaysis Park.

Police found two juveniles, a 13-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl both of Storm Lake, trespassing in the lighthouse and on the observation deck.

As police took them into custody, a 14-year-old girl from Storm Lake tried to interfere with the arrest and screamed at officers, according to police.

She was taken into custody.

Police charged the 15-year-old girl with criminal trespass.

Police charged the 14-year-old girl with disorderly conduct and interference with official acts. The 13-year-old boy was charged with criminal trespass.

All three were processed and released to their parents pending a court date.

 

Teen boys charged with reckless use of fire


A fire broke out under the railroad trestle at 200 Memorial Road Thursday at 8:55 p.m.

Police saw that a campfire had been started using a rubber tire as a fire ring. The fire had eaten through the tire and started to spread when the officer put it out with a fire extinguisher.

Police collected evidence at the scene and reviewed security camera footage at local convenience stores. Police were able to see two suspects connected to the fire.

At 10:20 p.m. Thursday police stopped one of the suspects, a 16-year-old boy from Storm Lake, who was walking in the 900 block of Lake Avenue.

At 10:40 p.m. police located a second suspect, a 16-year-old boy from Storm Lake at 210 West Seventh St.

Police charged both boys with reckless use of fire and they were processed and released to their parents pending a court date.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.        

 

Assault at middle school


Police were called to Storm Lake Middle School because of an assault Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Police were told that a 12-year-old girl from Storm Lake assaulted a middle school staff person.

The girl was charged with assault and was processed and released to a parent pending a court date.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
