Fire sparks in Lakeside

Caused by a controlled burn

At 6:24 p.m. Wednesday the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to a grass fire near a grove of trees south of the Storm Lake Golf Course.

Firefighters observed approximately one acre of grass burning to the west of 120th Avenue, south of the golf course.

Firefighters extinguished several fires within the area that were burning.

The fires had scattered across a field.

Due to very high winds the Alta Fire Department was requested to provide mutual aid assistance and assist in preventing the fire from spreading.

The cause of the fire is believed to be from a controlled burn being conducted by the City of Lakeside at its brush pile, which spread out of control.

There were no injuries and damage was contained to the grassy area.
