Math geeks, meet the Pi (3.14) girl
Vang memorizes infinite number 177 digits out
By DOLORES CULLEN
When Storm Lake sixth grade math teacher Dewey Hupke handed out sheets with the first 500 digits of Pi to his students to memorize last Monday, he never dreamed any of them would make it past the first 50.
Enter Kaying Vang. By Friday, or Pi Day, this shy sixth grade girl could recite the first 144 numbers, from memory. On Monday, she recited 177 numbers, which we video-recorded and posted on our website stormlake.com.
