Woman charged with forgery, identity theft

An identity theft report was called in to the Storm Lake Police Department at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Buena Vista County Courthouse.

Staff told police that a client in the office identified as Cellia Lipai, 35, of Storm Lake, attempted to use identification information belonging to her brother by altering a government document in order to get a driver’s license.

Police arrested Lipai at the courthouse and charged her with forgery and identify theft.

She was booked on a $7,000 bond.


BVU student reportedly found with pot on campus

Police arrested a person in connection with a drug investigation at Buena Vista University Thursday morning.

Police were told that on Feb. 13 Buena Vista University security staff seized a small amount of marijuana from a dorm room in Liberty Hall on the BVU campus.

On Thursday police arrested Spencer Carlson, 18, of Spirit Lake. Carlson was charged with possession of a controlled substance and was booked on a $1,000 bond.


Traffic stop leads to arrest

On Thursday morning police stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of West Fourth Street for a traffic violation. Police identified a passenger in the vehicle as David Flores-Martinez, 22, of Storm Lake.

Martinez was wanted out of Sac County on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in court in reference to driving while suspended.

Police took Martinez into custody, where Martinez reportedly resisted arrest.

Police charged Martinez with interference with official acts and booked him in the Buena Vista County Jail, where he was held on the Storm Lake Police Department charge and the Sac County warrant.

His bond was $800. No injuries were reported.


Wanted man jailed

Police located a wanted person at 709 Lincoln Road at 8:46 p.m. Thursday.

Police arrested Jose Delcarmen Cortez, 23, of Storm Lake, who was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear in court in reference to domestic assault.

Cortez was booked into the county jail on a $605.25 bond.
