SL man goes to prison after stealing car

Carlos Tula, 23, of Storm Lake, was sentenced to a term not to exceed two years in prison with the Iowa Department of Corrections after being found guilty of violating the terms of his probation.

Tula was initially sentenced to probation in 2012 for public intoxication, his third offence.

On Dec. 3 Tula was charged by the Storm Lake Police Department with operation without owners consent, accused of stealing a motor vehicle left running in a Storm Lake Casey’s parking lot.

Tula went on a joy ride and ditched the car in a downtown alleyway.

During the police interview Tula admitted to consuming alcohol the night the car was taken and claimed to not remember anything.

On Jan. 27 Judge Borth determined that Tula was in violation of the terms of his probation and sent him to prison. Evidence included Casey’s surveillance camera footage and other evidence gathered by Storm Lake Police.
