Two cited for leaving scene of an accident

A police officer Sunday morning observed a vehicle get struck by another car in the 600 block of Lake Avenue and then both vehicles fled from the area.

Police allege that following the collision that a 2008 Toyota fled from the scene and police stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Railroad Street.

This vehicle was driven by Mary Broadhead, 32, of Sioux Rapids.

The second vehicle that fled was stopped by police near the intersection of Seneca and East Sixth Streets.

The vehicle was a 1997 Cadillac and was driven by Trahern Lovan, 22, of Storm Lake.

The Broadhead vehicle sustained approximately $1,500 in damages and the Lovan vehicle sustained approximately $500 in damages.

Police charged Broadhead with OWI, unsafe backing and leaving the scene of an accident. She was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $2,300 bond.

Lovan was cited for leaving the scene of an accident and was cited and released.

No injuries were reported.


Man trespasses at library

At 2:21 p.m. Friday police were called to the Storm Lake Library at 609 Cayuga St. because of a trespass.

Library staff told police that a person was in the library who had allegedly been served notice to not enter the premises.

The subject was Guy Johns, 55, of Storm Lake. Police arrested Johns and charged him with criminal trespass.

He was booked into the county jail on a $300 bond.


Man jailed for consuming alcohol after hours

Police conducted a business search at the Little Vientiane at Flindt Drive Sunday at 2:32 a.m.

Police observed patrons consuming alcohol after hours.

Police charged Manh Keokham, 42, of Storm Lake with allowing consumption after hours.

He was cited and released pending a court date.

A report will be forwarded to the Iowa Alcohol and Beverage Division.


SL man arrested after alleged police chase

On Sunday afternoon Storm Lake Police were called to 1616 Rose Lane because of a domestic assault.

Police were told that Daniel Flores-Corona, 25, of Storm Lake, allegedly struck his girlfriend in the face then fled from the area of the residence.

Police checked the area and were unable to find Flores-Corona.

At 9:15 p.m. Sunday police were called back to 161 Rose Lane on a report that Flores-Corona had returned.

Officers were told that Flores-Corona had fled again and was last seen traveling through area yards. Officers observed Flores-Corona walking on the railroad just north of East Fourth Street when police attempted to stop him.

He allegedly fled on foot from police. Officers apprehended Flores-Corona near the old railroad right of way at Geisinger Road.

Flores-Corona was charged with domestic assault causing injury and interference with official acts. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and was held without bond.


Wanted woman jailed

On Thursday at 3:01 p.m. police were called to 205 West Sixth St. #8 to locate a wanted person.

Police arrested Shannon Andrews, 21, of Storm Lake who was wanted on a warrant charging her with violation of conditions of release in reference to a theft.

Andrews was booked on a $300 bond.


Woman cited for giving false information in traffic stop

A police officer stopped a vehicle Thursday at 9:51 p.m. in the 600 block of Ontario Street for a traffic violation.

After contacting the driver, Maylinda Jano, 30, of Storm Lake, police learned Jano allegedly had a suspended driver’s license.

According to police, Jano provided police with false information. Police arrested Jano and charged her with interference with official acts and driving while suspended.

She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.


Spirit Lake duo faces meth, theft charges

A theft was reported at Walmart on Jan. 28 that initiated an investigation by the Storm Lake Police Department.

Police were told that on Jan. 15 a man and woman pushed a cart out of the store with approximately $1,500 in electronic merchandise without paying.

After reviewing store security tapes police identified the two as George Williamson, 24, and Carlee Donley, 24, both of Spirit Lake.

On Thursday, Storm Lake Police executed a search warrant at 2702 Sunner Ave. #10C in Spirit Lake. Williamson and Donley were taken into custody.

Police seized approximately $10,000 in stolen property frorm the residence, as well as methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Police charged both Williamson and Donley with theft.

Spirit Lake Police charged Williamson and Donley with ongoing criminal conduct, possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Williamson was charged with interference with official acts. They were booked into the Dickinson County Jail.
