Two women cited for illegal sale of alcohol
Storm Lake Police report that on Friday evening the department conducted compliance checks to ascertain if appropriate measures were being taken in connection with the sale of alcohol.
Police checked 18 establishments licensed to sell alcohol in Storm Lake by sending an underage patron into the business to purchase alcohol.
Police report that 16 of the licensed liquor establishments took the appropriate steps to insure the sale of alcohol to a minor did not occur.
“Although we had two establishments allegedly sell alcohol to a minor, we are very pleased that the greates majority of our businesses are vigilant for underage alcohol sales and complied with the necessary steps to avoid the illegal sale,” Assistant Police Chief Todd Erskine said. “We congratulate them on a job well done.”
On Friday night police charged the following with providing alcohol to a minor.
Kathryn Lovell, 19, of Vinton was charged in connection with the alleged illegal sale of alcohol at One Stop Shop.
Marylou Gracia, 40, of Storm Lake was charged in connection with the alleged illegal sale of alcohol at Walmart.
Both women were cited and released pending a court date.
Additional checks are anticipated.
