Storm Lake man charged with domestic assault


On Tuesday at 1:56 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was called to 1405 North Lake Ave. #20 because of a reported domestic assault.

Officers were told that a female was assaulted by her boyfriend and that he had fled from the apartment complex.

Officers saw the suspect, Todd Sutton, 22, of Storm Lake, walking in the 1300 block of Seneca Street and took him into custody without incident.

Police were told by the victim that she and Sutton had gotten into an argument in apartment #20.

The victim told police that Sutton assaulted her by grabbing her by the face and shoving her onto a bed at which time he placed his hand over her nose and mouth, cutting off her ability to breathe.

Furthermore, he stopped her from calling 911.

The victim fought free and fled from the apartment at which time she called 911.

Police say that when Sutton fled from the apartment, he damaged the victim’s vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

Police charged Sutton with domestic assault/impeding airway, obstruction of emergency communication and criminal mischief.

He was booked and held without bond.

The victim declined medical attention.

 

Fake ID leads to arrest


On Thursday morning police officers on location at Malarky’s Night Club conducted a bar check at 1:27 a.m.

Police made contact with Justin Hudson, 19, of Storm Lake who provided them with a false identification card.

Police arrested Hudson and charged him with interference with official acts and public intoxication. He was booked on a $600 bond.

 

Theft at Walmart


At 5:06 p.m. Monday police took a report of a theft at Walmart.

Police were told that a woman had left her cell phone, valued at $700, in a restroom at the store and after returning to the restroom to retrieve the cell phone it was gone.

Police reviewed the security footage of the area near the restroom and observed a male subject leaving the restroom with the cell phone in his hand.

Security footage showed the man entering a white SUV and departing from the parking lot.

On Wednesday at 7 p.m. an officer on patrol observed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description parked on 134 Highway St.

Police made contact with the driver, You Hang Lee, 23, of Storm Lake and questioned Lee.

Police say Lee had the stolen cell phone in his possession which was retrieved by police.

Police charged Lee with theft and he was booked on a $2,000 bond.

 

Another theft at Walmart


On Dec. 5 at 6:23 p.m. the Storm Lake Police were called to Walmart located at 1831 Lake Ave. because of a theft.         

Police arrived and were directed to a suspect in the parking lot who allegedly stole merchandise from the store.                  

Police made contact with Cody Carlson, 21, of Cherokee.                  

After an investigation police arrested Carlson and charged him with theft and he was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on $300 bond.         

A second person with Carlson, Elizabeth Woltman, 18, of Cherokee, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.         

She was cited and released pending a court date.

 

Wanted man jailed 


On Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. police were called to 304 Superior St. to locate a wanted person.         

Police located and arrested Kaylor Phillip, 23, of Storm Lake, who was wanted on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in court because of an OWI and driving while suspended.                  

Phillip was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,000 bond.  

 

Teen steals from Walmart


Storm Lake Police were called to Walmart on North Lake Avenue at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 6 because of a theft.         

Police were told by store staff that a 17-year-old from Alta allegedly stole approximately $29 in merchandise.         

Store security reported that when confronted the juvenile returned the items.         

Police located the juvenile in the store parking lot and arrested him.         

He was charged with theft and he was processed and released to a parent pending a court date.         

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.            

 

Argument leads to three arrests


On Dec. 6 at 10:25 p.m. Storm Lake Police were called to the King's Pointe parking lot at 1520 East Lakeshore Dr. after a report of a fight.         

Police arrived and encountered three men who had been in a fight.          

Police identified the men as Jose Rosales-Ayala, 28, Anibal Rivera Martinez, 25, and Jinny Melgar Lara, 30, all of Storm Lake.         

All three men were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication.         

Each man was booked on a $600 bond.         

No injuries were reported.

 

Man charged with drug paraphernalia


Alex Ordonez, 18, of Storm Lake, was arrested on Saturday night after police found him in possession of drug paraphernalia during a consent search at 205 W. Sixth St. at 9:30 p.m.         

Ordonez was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and was booked into the county jail on a $300 bond.           

 

Man arrested after police find marijuana


A Storm Lake man was charged with possession of marijuana Sunday after police were called to 516 Seneca St. at 2:06 a.m.         

On arrival police heard arguing inside the residence. Police separated the occupants to ascertain the nature of the argument. Officers encountered a small amount of marijuana inside the house during the investigation.

Roderick Lewis, 32, of Storm Lake was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.                  

He was booked into the county jail on a $1,000 bond.         

Other drug paraphernalia was seized from the residence.         

The investigation is continuing.
