Police say he knocked her out for confronting him

Police were called to a domestic disturbance at 609D West Ninth St. at 12:38 a.m. Monday.

Police encountered the suspect in the alleged assault and identified the suspect as Vincent Nichols, 32, of Storm Lake. Nichols confronted police at the front door of the apartment where police say Nichols fought with officers and was subdued.

The reporting party told police that she was Nichols’ girlfriend and that she had walked in the apartment bedroom and observed Nichols allegedly sexually assaulting another woman who was passed out in the bed from alcohol consumption.

When the woman identified at Nichol’s girlfriend confronted him, he hit and choked her, and did not let her leave. Nichols then reportedly struck her and knocked her unconscious.

When the woman regained consciousness she was able to escape the apartment and ran to HyVee on North Lake Avenue and called 911.

Buena Vista County Paramedics responded to the scene and treated both women.

Neither was transported to the medical center.

The injured police officer was treated at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center and was released.

Police charged Nichols with sexual abuse, domestic assault – strangulation causing bodily harm, interference with official acts causing injury and false imprisonment. He was booked and held without bond.
