Woman saved from choking by brother of assault suspect
Then he gets charged with blocking 911 call
A Storm Lake man is accused of trapping a woman and her toddler in a bathroom Friday and choking the woman until the alleged assailant’s brother broke into the bathroom and freed the victims.
The avenging brother eventually was charged himself for blocking the woman from calling police.
On Friday at 8:45 p.m. police were called to Casey’s West Store at 222 West Milwaukee Ave. because of a domestic assault in progress.
Police met with an adult female and her 18-month child.
Police were told by the victim that while she was at a residence located at 319 West Seventh St., her boyfriend, Aihlee Jamad Boutte, 18, of Storm Lake, physically assaulted her and choked her while her child was trapped in the bathroom with the victim.
The suspect’s brother, Faheem Jamal Boutte, 22, of Fort Dodge and two other men broke into the bathroom and rescued the woman and her child from Aihlee Boutte.
At this point, Aihlee Boutte attempted to assault one of the rescuing witnesses but failed.
Faheem Boutte and the other two men escorted the victim and her child to the Casey’s Store at which time the victim attempted to call 911 on her cell phone.
At this point, Faheem Boutte took the cell phone and prevented her from calling for help.
He then left the store.
While police were on location at Casey’s, they observed Aihlee Boutte approaching the parking lot of the store at which time he was taken into custody.
Other officers located Faheem Boutte near the intersection of West Seventh and Geneseo Street, where he was arrested without incident.
After an investigation, police charged Aihlee Boutte with domestic assault with strangulation causing bodily harm, child endangerment, false imprisonment and assault.
In addition it was determined that Aihlee Boutte was wanted by the Storm Lake Police Department on an outstanding warrant for theft on an unrelated incident.
He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.
Faheem Boutte was charged with obstruction of emergency communication and Faheem was found to be wanted out of Buena Vista County on a warrant charging him with contempt of court.
The female victim was treated by Buena Vista County Paramedics at the police station for injuries sustained in the assault.
No injuries were reported for the child.
A report has been forwarded to the Iowa Department of Human Services.
Laurens man charged after undercover pot purchase
An investigation by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office along with the Laurens Police Department has led to a Laurens man being charged with two felonies.
Justin Lee Dasilva, 19, of Laurens, was arrested on Nov. 21 on an outstanding arrest warrant in Fort Dodge.
He was transported back to Pocahontas County to face two charges of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.
The charges stem from law enforcement making two undercover purchases of marijuana from Dasilva.
Both charges also are subject to enhanced penalties because both purchases were made within 1,000 feet of the Laurens School.
Man charged with stealing cash from Boathouse
A theft was reported at the Boathouse on 502 Lake Ave. on Tuesday at 4:37 p.m.
Police were told that a money bag with checks, credit cards and cash had been stolen from beside the cash register while staff stepped into another room and out of sight.
Police were told that during the time of the theft there was only one customer in the establishment, Dustin O’Toole, 44, of Storm Lake.
At 4 p.m. Sunday, police made contact with O’Toole and after an interview arrested him and charged him with theft.
O’Toole was booked on $300 bond.
Wanted man found
On Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. the Storm Lake Police were called to 106 Superior St. because of a wanted person being located.
Police arrived and located James Cassaro, 40, of Storm Lake.
He was arrested on a warrant charging him with theft.
The warrant came from the alleged passing of a bad check at Pro-Build in Storm Lake on Sept. 30 for the amount of $2,565.06.
Cassaro was booked on $5,000 bond.
